Signs from Heaven

Signs from Heaven

I have always been a firm believer in signs. And I believe those that have gone before us have the ability to send us signs exactly when we need them. One of my all-time favorite movies “Serendipity” calls it a fortunate discovery.

Every day I look for serendipity, signs from my Joe. One day in particular, just a few weeks after he died, he sent one. I went back to work on a Monday. A full day in the office was difficult so I came home and worked after lunch each day. The tears were abundant that day, just because. When I got home, I stepped outside and sat on the steps of our deck, watching our dogs Hope & Grace run and play. I just happened to look down and there it was, just sitting there on the ground.

A seashell. In our backyard. In Oklahoma.

Now what you don’t know is Joe & I have been vacationing for many years in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It is our favorite spot in the whole wide world. A place filled with so much history for me and my family as we vacationed there every summer when I was a child. Joe fell in love with it the moment we drove over the causeway our very first trip. We were just there for a glorious week in May this year, eating all of our favorite foods like fishbites from Breakers and calzone from Stavros Pizza. We rose each morning just before dawn, walking the beach, holding hands, watching God’s amazing handiwork as the sun rose off the East Coast. We were at peace there. Something both of us desperately needed after the six years of challenges and grief we had both walked through. But that’s for another story.

On this particular day in October I focused on serendipity sent to me by my beautiful man. He knew I needed a sign from him that he was okay. Message received babe. Message received.
