I was never the girl in high school who had tons of girlfriends, and I’ve never been a “girl’s night out” kind of gal. Honestly, I’ve never really had many girlfriends until I hit my 40’s. In the early 2000’s Joe and I were lucky enough to work at the same company (where I still work today). We became friends with a few of the guys he worked with along with their significant others. We also made new friends during our food truck season of life. These friendships have become some of the most important relationships in my life today.
From monthly game nights to regular dinners at our favorite little Mexican restaurant, these are the women I love spending time with. We talk about anything and everything. Nothing is off limits. We laugh a lot, and we pray for each other relentlessly. They were with us during Joe’s cancer battle. They brought snacks and meals to the hospital when Joe went into cardiac arrest, holding vigil with me all hours of the day and night. They are the ones who were called in the middle of the night when he passed away.
We’ve celebrated so many milestones over the last 20+ years like marriage, grandchildren, losing loved ones, job changes and everything in between. I can’t imagine my life without them in it, and I am so grateful every single day they are.

I can always count on them to call just when I need their energy around me. They know exactly what to do and exactly when to do it. Sometimes things change when you lose your spouse and you are no longer a couple. But this group of friends hasn’t changed at all. The guys are here for me whenever I need them. When the seven of us are together the laughs continue, and we all love talking about Joe.

I love the guys, but these ladies are my ride or die. If you’re lucky enough to have amazing friends in your life, post a picture in the comments.
