Is your refrigerator empty? Mine is most of the time. Well, except for the pickles. Why do I have an abundance of pickles? Anyway, I went to make a sandwich the other day and realized the Kraft singles had been there since the beginning of September. What is their shelf life anyway? Do they expire? Is it even actually cheese?
There were so many things in my fridge that had expired. Out of date condiments and curdled cottage cheese (yes it will curdle!). It could take me a month or more to go through a loaf of bread. Chips and crackers go stale before I can eat them all. Even the ice cream crystalizes before I get to the bottom of the container, which is nothing short of a cardinal sin. And don’t get me started on milk. I don’t bother to buy it anymore. I am that person who smells the milk every time I open it and dumps it the day it expires, even if it isn’t bad yet.
Buying meat hardly ever happens anymore. I was lucky enough to still have some of Joe’s barbeque in smaller quantities in my freezer. We owned a barbeque food truck for five years and my guy was a phenomenal BBQ cook. I was spoiled by an endless supply of brisket, sausage and ribs. My go-to meal lately has been scrambled eggs and toast. When I need to comfort myself it’s mac-n-cheese to the rescue (boxed of course).

So, my fridge is full of pickles and my cholesterol might be on the rise. Food is honestly the last thing I think about. It’s not important anymore, even though I know I need to eat. You know, to stay alive and all.
Where’s Willy Wonka’s three-course dinner gum when you need it?
I can’t leave you without a song. JJ Grey is from Jacksonville, Florida (where my dad was born and raised). This is one of our favorite bands. I grew up eating a lot of the foods he sings about in this one.
Are you avoiding meals? Or are you using food for comfort? Either way, does the thought of it all exhaust you like it does me?
